A back roller is vital for making lawn stripes, but there are other elements to consider when purchasing a lawn mower.
1. Most household gardens can use a battery- or mains-powered lawnmower. Electric equipment are easier to control while making stripes.
Small/medium gardens need a 30-40 cm cutting width. Narrower mowers are better for navigating trees and flowerbeds.
2. Consider a petrol mower for large gardens. Large home lawns should be fine with 125 cc.
3. Look for mulching features to shred clippings and promote your lawn's health. This won't harm the smart striped finish and will eliminate the need for a grass box.
4. You'll need cutting heights. For beautiful stripes, cut the grass longer and higher. Minimum 50 mm cutting height.
5. Blade Quality and Count
Reel mowers use a rotating reel (or cylinder) fitted with multiple blades. The number of cutter blades required depends on the grass type (again) and the number of reel rotations per inch traveled forward.
Stripes aren't scary. It's as easy as alternating grass leaves. Here's how to get great lawn stripes.
Step 1: Get tools. Best: reel mower. More rolling improves grass blade directionality.
Step 2 : Plan your pattern. Start with a simple grid, then add checkerboards and diagonals.
Step 3: Mow the lawn's boundaries to create a frame.
Step 4: Make stripes with a mower. At the end of each strip, turn the mower 180 degrees and mow the opposite way, overlapping slightly.
Step 5: Roll the grass to emphasize the stripes. Attach a lawn striper to your mower and follow your plan.
Re-mow the perimeter to finish your lawn.
